Q: What is Neighbors InChrist?
A: Neighbors InChrist is a Montgomery, Alabama based Christian ministry providing training, resources, coordination of services and programs to reach out to crime victims and restore peace in our community. Neighbors InChrist seeks to quickly provide practical, emotional, and if desired, spiritual assistance to victims of robbery,  assault, aggravated assault, burglary, and theft, including identity theft, and to victims of elder abuse unavailable through other victim service agencies.

Q: What is your Mission Statement?
A: To train, assist, and equip Christians in their ministry to crime victims and their families Neighbors InChrist is a Christian ministry providing training, resources, coordination of services and programs to reach out to crime victims and restore peace in our community.

Q: What segment(s) of the community and approximately how many people will be served by this ministry?
A: The entire city of Montgomery is being served, with Autauga, Elmore, and Lowndes County being served on an as needed basis. Those who have been the victim of a crime will receive a letter informing them of the services. Certain victims, such as females, the elderly, and youth will be prioritized and will be contacted first by the Neighbors InChrist volunteers to see if they need any other services.

Q:. What indications are there as to the need for this ministry in our community?
A: The District Attorney’s office, the Montgomery Police Department, the Montgomery County Sheriff’s office, and victim organizations have all participated in making Neighbors InChrist a viable program. Property victims particularly have been the last to be served by our criminal justice system and victims as a whole are usually the least served in the criminal justice system. Of the thousands of crime reports that we respond to each year, there are hundreds of extremely thankful individuals Neighbors InChrist volunteers called, helped, or repaired their door or window.

Q: How does your support process and plans work? What is process for the administration of this ministry?
A; Our volunteers start by sending a letter to victims stating who we are and how we got their information. We explain that our purpose is to help them in any way we can and explain to them how to contact us. We include any information that we think will be helpful: everyone gets a Surviving Crime pamphlet, scriptures for comfort, and a Prayer sheet asking if they have any prayer requests.  Oftentimes a victim will have a door or window broken and need help replacing it or fix the door or window. We would then send a property repair volunteer to the victim’s home to fix their broken glass or the lock on their door.
Our main goal is to let people who have been traumatized know that someone cares. And while we are a Christian non-profit, our volunteers do not evangelize but will offer help spiritually if the victim requests it.

Q: Are there other organizations in Montgomery providing the same or similar services? Explain the features of this project that distinguish it from others to prevent duplication.
A: No other program like ours exists so we are not duplicating services. The District Attorney’s office has a Victim Service Officer to help victims of violent crimes but their office does not have the time or the personnel to help every property crime victim. We also work with other local agencies to augment their programs if needed (i.e STAR (Standing Together Against Rape) and Family Sunshine Center for Domestic Violence). We move victims when their home is no longer safe and we change locks so abusers can’t return to their homes and do more harm.  We also offer a food pantry for critical situations when other local food pantries are closed such as nights and weekends.
